Commission me!

I don't just do fantasy stuff! Though I particularly like doing science fiction or fantasy images, I'll have a go at just about anything. When I was trying to earn money to get through college I worked on everything from abstracts to technical illustrations for product catalogues. Don't ask me to do pictures of copyrighted characters though - unless you are the person who owns the copyright I can't really do that.

What I need in order to quote you is a description of the picture you'd like. I'll come back to you with some questions and probably a few suggestions and then suggest a price.

Some prices
Single character portraits - about $20
Simple scenes with a single character, background - about $25
Multi character scenes - $35 or so

The above prices are guidelines - if a picture is very complicated to do I'll probably ask for a little more. I once had to do a portrait of an anthromorphic Griffon in etched plate armour and it took ages! For something like that I'd probably add about $10 to the above costs. Paypal is the best way to pay me since I'm in the UK and International Money orders for small amounts are not worth the hassle for everyone concerned.

Pictures will be supplied as high rez digital images, ready for you to print. If you want I can print it for you but then I'll have to charge postage on top. You probably have a better printer than me anyway.

Once I've build the basics, it's much easier for me to do future pictures. So follow up pictures using the same character(s) cost around $10 less, as long as the scene isn't too much more complicated. Yes, I can do a short comic strip if you tell me what you want. Yes, I can do CD and book covers. No, I probably can't do you a 70 page graphic novel unless you pay me a lot of money! (I had a request to do just that from someone once. They actually thought I should do it for free, and accused me of wasting their time when I said I wouldn't!)

How to start

Email me at virtualgen@btinternet.co.uk with your description of what you want a picture of.

Settle down comfortably and wait. I only get to check my email once a day or so, so please be patient!

Answer any questions I email you with, or tell me what you think of any suggestions I make. At the end we'll both have an idea of what the finished picture will be like.

Pay me! I don't start work until the money goes into my Paypal account. Sorry, but I've had too many people who got me to spend hours of work on something and then disappeared without paying.

Settle down comfortably and wait. Usually I'll get onto it pretty soon, but when I have several to do it might take me a couple of weeks.

Receive your picture in your email box. I like to know that it arrived ok, and what you think, so please email me back when you get it!

Your rights and mine

You are the customer, and you have the right to do what you like with your picture. You can give copies to your friends, post it to the internet, whatever you want. It's not cool to take credit for doing it yourself though. My name will be on it and you really should give me credit for my hard work! I do reserve the right to post a copy to my archives where other people can see it - but if it contains a nude or is otherwise a bit "naughty" I'll always ask first, as it's private.
